The General Court Martial in Makindye has dropped charges against former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura. This was announced on Wednesday by the military court martial at Makindye, Kampala. It should be remembered in 2018, Kayihura was arrested and charged with failure to protect materials, and failure to supervise police officers, Kayihura has been on bail since 2020. During the previous 2021 general election campaigns, the NRM leaders in Kisoro district asked President Museveni to pardon their son, Gen Kayihura so he could be redeployed.
The president said he would work on the request. Recently, the First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba pleaded with President Museveni to pardon Gen Kayihura and “rehabilitate him”.
The dropping of the charges comes in time as the A NR bush war general is among those set to retire from active service of the UPDF tomorrow at a function to be held at Entebbe State House.
At the function to be presided over by President Museveni who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces, others to retire include Maj Gen Sam Wasswa Mutesasira, Maj Gen Arocha Joseph, Brig Steven Oluka and Brig Augustine Atwooki among others. The UPDF General’s military service started in 1982 when he joined the National Resistance Army (NRA), a guerilla outfit led by Yoweri Museveni that eventually seized power in 1986.
