RWANDAN PRESIDENT TO BECOME A JOURNALIST UPON RETIREMENT

The long-time leader of Rwanda President Paul kagame has expressed the desire after making known his intentions of handing power to a new leader, Paul kagame has been in power since 2000 making it 23years and counting more in power.

Following a briefing with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto Wednesday April 5 2023, Kagame said a succession plan is under discussion within the ruling party.

To the fact that no human is remotely indispensable, President Paul Kagame said his retirement was an ‘inevitability.

President Kagame, however, said he intends to become a journalist when he retires from the highest office of state.

“…………join journalism in my old age. I’m looking forward to that,” President Kagame said.

This was not the first time Paul Kagame has talked about retirement. In December 2022, he said he had no problem becoming an ordinary senior citizen.

In 2015, a controversial referendum in Rwanda removed a two-term constitutional limit for presidents. Mr. Kagame, who has been in power since 2000, was able to run for a third term and win the election. His comments come days after the country’s ruling party, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi), elected its first woman vice-chairperson. President Kagame retained the chairmanship position. He has led the party since 1998.
