Principal Judge Flavian Zeija has urged civil servants to be accountable.

Zeija made the remarks as he presided over the judicial open day ceremony in Sironko district.
During the ceremony, he informed residents and the country that the judicial system is taking steps to make new measures that will shape its work and end allegations of corruption and impropriety in the sector.
Zeija also urged civil servants to be more accountable to residents in terms of the services they provide. He said that the judicial system is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is accessible to all Ugandans.

During the ceremony, many residents raised their issues to magistrates and the Principal Judge.
They were informed of the adjudicate functions under Article 126(1) of the Constitution, which indicates the values of the law to the people.
One resident, Richard Wonya , pleaded for justice for his son, who has spent three years in prison without a court hearing.
Another resident, Jackson Muzei Robot, said that he was brought to court and after a period of time, those who stole his land came back with court orders asking for money that he cannot even pay. The civil servants acknowledged that many of the complaints they receive are affected by a lack of transportation and other equipment.
However, they said that they are working to improve the situation and ensure that they can better serve the needs of residents.
The Principal Judge commended the civil servants for their work and assured them that the judicial system is committed to supporting them in their efforts to provide quality services to the public. He also urged them to continue to be accountable to residents and to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
The judicial open day ceremony was a success and it is clear that the judicial system is committed to improving the lives of Ugandans. The new measures that are being put in place will help to ensure that the judicial system is more accessible, fair, and efficient.
