The United Nations human rights commissioner in Uganda Volker Turk, announced the end of his work in the country on 6th august last Sunday together with the entire commission.
This comes after government refused to renew the mandate of the UNHRC office in the country, the departure of the commission raises questions on the future of human rights protection and oversight in Uganda
Many political activists have raised concern over their departure in the country during this time.

According to one of the human rights activists (anonymous), the closing of the office is to lift the work of government body under human rights in Uganda.
However, Masiga Steven a researcher and a lecturer at Makerere University in mbale district says that all laws that protect human rights are in place even we thought the UNHRC.
Fazali Nabende the national unity platform chairman in mbale districts says that departure of the commission came at a time when it is more needed in Uganda than the past 18years.
Kalule Abdulrahman a resident in Nkoma village Mbale district, says that the closure of the commission has left many Ugandans jobless which brings an impact on the national economy
